Maize dryer STELA BITURBO

THE NEW GENERATION OF STELA BITURBO DRYERS
WILL SAVE YOU A LOT OF ENERGY

Thanks to STELA's new BiTurbo drying technology, corn can now be dried much more cheaply than before. The technology uses completely new features that have the benefit of significantly reducing heat consumption and reducing grain damage during drying. The STELA BITURBO dryer uses two combustion burners, each of which can be set to a different temperature. The combustion burners are installed "crosswise" so that optimum drying is also achieved across the entire width of the drying channels. While the upper section dries very moist grain at temperatures of 90 to 120 °C, the lower section dries at much higher temperatures (130 to 150 °C).

Because the maize is dried so slowly, the grain is not damaged and a considerable amount of energy is saved. In the case of maize from the field with lower moisture content, only one burner, namely the one at the bottom, can be used for drying and the upper part can only be heated.

  • high performance
  • 15% lower fuel and hot air consumption
  • two-phase drying
  • drying without grain damage
  • Temperature control at the top and bottom of the dryer
  • lower electricity consumption
  • BiTurbo and Combi Air Clean technology
  • long service life
  • reduced air volume
  • improved product quality thanks to bi-directional ventilation
  • lower dust levels due to waste air filtration in the wet product area

How the drying process works

The revolutionary air duct arrangement of Stela dryers with BiTurbo technology reduces the required amount of heated air by up to 50%, resulting in a reduction of up to 15% in thermal energy requirements compared to a conventional dryer with active heat recovery. Ambient fresh air is drawn in at the bottom of the dryer to be heated, for example by a natural gas burner, and then fed into the lower drying section of the drying tower, the so-called dry grain area, together with preheated air from the so-called cooling zone. Here, in contrast to the current drying process, the product is dehumidified by air heated to 150 °C without damaging the corn kernel, since the moisture content of the product in this area is already between 18-20 %. The still quite hot air leaving the dry grain area is then led to the upper drying zone by an auxiliary axial fan where it is again mixed with the ambient air drawn in at the top of the dryer, which is heated by a second burner to a temperature of 120-130°C. This heated air passes through the material in the wet grain area and is then blown into the ambient atmosphere by a second axial fan.

Combi Air Clean for dust reduction

Another new feature for a more economical corn drying operation is the Combi-Air-Clean dedusting system. Both BiTurbo and Combi-Air-Clean technologies have very low emission values and significant savings in gas and electricity consumption.

The STELA Combi-Air-Clean system increases the efficiency of removing corn dust, light impurities and petals from the corn throughout the dryer, while reducing electricity consumption. In contrast to conventional dryer separation methods, the Combi-Air-Clean system divides the drying air outlet stream into two parts. The STELA Combi-Air-Clean system achieves up to 30% lower total dust emissions compared to conventional dryer dust extraction methods.

BITURBO dryer sets new consumption record

Stela's BiTurbo dryer technology has proven and even slightly improved the record low consumption of all energy metered in 2015 in Austria! Two years later, at the PAWLICA installation at CGFP S p.z o.o.'s center in Osowiec, Poland, these values were further improved to the following parameters for natural gas: 1.0 m3 gas/t/% at drying from 33.6% to 14.7% moisture. And electricity consumption is also at a record level of 5.6 kWh/t thanks to the control of all fans by frequency converters!
