New products presented on Techagro 2014

New silos – greater strength and higher capacity

A new series of high-capacity BROCK silos was presented at this year's Techagro in Brno by PAWLICA Ltd., which is a long time supplier of technology for post-harvest treatment of grain. The company has implemented a wide range of projects in the Czech Republic and now focuses more on export. Besides Slovakia and Poland, it has also initiated business activities in Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia.

PAWLICA Ltd. supplies equipment for drying, cleaning and storage of grain and other commodities in the Czech Republic. We specialize in complete project proposals for post-harvest lines and grain storage halls, not only of new installations, but also reconstructions. Our philosophy is to create and maintain excellent relationships with our long-term international partners, supplying products of the highest quality. Besides the leading US manufacturer of first-rate BROCK silos and the Polish manufacturer of BIN silos we also represent the German manufacturer of stationary, mobile and belt dryers STELA, the manufacturer of cutting edge pre-cleaners and cleaners GEBR.RUBERG, the Scandinavian manufacturers of conveyors SKANDIA and JE-MA, and the American manufacturer of transportation systems HUTCHINSON. Last but not least, we also offer laboratory equipment by the German PFEUFFER. During the past fifteen years of our existence in the Czech Republic, we have installed 246 dryers and built silos of total volume of 600,000 tons.

New silo construction

For storing plant commodities, PAWLICA Ltd. uses galvanized aerated silos, which meet all the requirements of modern grain and cereal storage. We represent the American manufacturer of grain silos BROCK, which has 75 years of experience in this field. The second company we represent is a Polish export company BIN, which, thanks to high quality and lower prices of their products, successfully exports to western countries of the European Union.

The Polish galvanized cereal silos are made of flat sheets and therefore their size is limited to 1,500 tons in one cell. The American BROCK silos are made of corrugated galvanized sheets and their strength and flexibility enable construction of huge installations with capacities of several tens of thousands of tons. The new series of BROCK silo called EVEREST offers the largest capacity options. “EVEREST silos have new construction with greater strength. As a result, containers as high as 32.5 meters may be constructed,” says Managing Director Ing. Petr Pawlica, adding that the new enhanced roof construction can carry the load at the top of up to 59 tons. He goes on to say that the largest BROCK silo was built in the US state of Illinois near Chicago. It has a diameter of 47.6 metres and a capacity of 43 thousand tons of grain.

High quality cleaning

An important part of the post-harvest treatment of grain is cleaning. In this respect, PAWLICA Ltd. relies on cleaners and pre-cleaners made by the German manufacturers SCHMIDT-SEEGER and Gebr.RUBERG, which have a long term experience in the field. “The SCHMIDT-SEEGER and Gebr.RUBERG products have a wide range of capacity options, high quality cleaning results, perfect function of sieves with rotation movement and reliable performance even in the heaviest agricultural operations. Long service life of these machines is guaranteed by their strong construction and high reliability,” says Ing. Pawlica.

Gentle drying

In post-harvest lines, high demands are also placed on the dryers. Drying should be as grain-friendly as possible, no damage to the grain or reduction in its germination should be caused. Grain drying is also a perfect preservation method, which is necessary in the case of corn, sunflower and rapeseed.

PAWLICA Ltd. offers dryers by German brand STELA. They are made of tempered aluminium that has a total resistance to corrosion. Their performance ranges between 5 and 250 t/h. STELA products are tailor-made, the customers are offered three options of heaters, ventilation, heat recovery, control of dust, noise and automatic moisture control.

In addition to traditional stationary and mobile dryers, PAWLICA also offers STELA belt dryers, which are designed specifically for using heat from cogeneration units at biogas stations. Thanks to their construction they can dry even the most demanding products, that is not only grain, but also sawdust, wood chips, separated digestate, beet chips or shredded waste including plastics.

Advantageous technology links

PAWLICA Ltd. has implemented a number of projects in which the post-harvest lines use waste heat from biogas stations for drying. This solution has become a trend in recent years, as it enables agricultural businesses to save a lot of money. Waste heat from a biogas station can be used for drying commodities during the harvest, or it may be used to warm up operation buildings in winter. Currently, this technology is used by about a dozen farms in the Czech Republic. Kooperace, Inc. in Výčepy, producing cattle and hog, is an example of such solution. A 1 MW biogas station is there connected to a MDB-TN 1/6 S dryer with a performance of 500 kW. Last winter an exchanger, heating and also supplying with heat the operation buildings, workshops, garages and a cowshed, was installed there too.

Gentle manipulation

To transport the commodities between individual parts of the post-harvest line, the most gentle transport technology should be used in order to prevent damage to the grain. In its project PAWLICA uses JE-MA and SKANDIA-ELEVATOR technology. Several kinds of grain conveyors are on offer – drag conveyors, bucket elevators, combined drag conveyors, elevators, intake hoppers, screw conveyors, belt conveyors and hall storage systems. Hutchinson Grain Pump is yet another interesting mode of transportation. It is a chain conveyor with plastic paddles, moving in a cylindrical tube. Thanks to a closed-loop transport, this system is gentler than traditional drag conveyors or elevators, where the grain travels through a couple of intersections. The advantage of this technology is its simplicity, versatility and lower price compared to traditional conveying systems. The capacity of the grain pump is between 55 and 480 t/h and it may also be used in hall systems.
